HackPack 07 - The first (unofficial) Hak5 EU meet up, arranged by the community, has generated a lot of interest. This page will track the current plans as we finalise the details of the meet.

Date
2nd weekend of August.
The events/meet up, starts on 10/08/07 and runs to 12/08/07.(Thats 8/10/07 - 8/12/07 for US People) We will be arriving on the Friday afternoon/night and spending the Friday and Saturdays night in the hostel and the meet up will finish on Sunday, although the finishing time for that day is still not fixed down. If you want to stay longer, that's fine, a few may well choose to, but you'll be on your own hotel booking wise.
Those people who are committed will be given the first chance to commit via paying the deposit. You have 7 days to pay the deposit If you haven't committed yet, you NEED to PM DarkSenay as soon as possible and he will add you to the list until 14 slots are filled. Once the 14 slots are filled you will be added to a waiting list, once the 7 days is up, those who have not given me a deposit will be dropped from the list, and how many slots are open will be filled by those on the waiting list.
I just need to stress that Everyone 16+ can come to the daily meetup activities, 18+ to stay at the hostel of course.
Location
From the original forum thread it has been decided that it will be held in London. The best plan is probably to have a hostel that we can use as our "base of operations", from where we can sit around geeking out, or go around London, to a bar, etc.
The hostel is booked, Astor Kensington . The address is 138-140 Cromwell Road, Kensington, London and is near to Hyde Park and Earls Court Station making it easy to find and convenient, see map. For more info look at the forums and the section above!
Age
Due to alcohol, and the problem of responsibility, there is reluctance to let under 18's, or under 16's come. However, there are many young hak5 fans. Bearing in mind the point below:
- This is a weekend in a big city, and the adults don't want to be forced into responsibility
- Do parents know?
- There WILL be alcohol
- Hak5 has a large under 18 audience
- Perhaps we can allow under 18's for a period during the day, but restrict the full time to 18+
- Can we have a bunch of guests who aren't staying at the hostel showing up during the day, and if not where can we take all our stuff
- How many young'uns are there anyway? Maybe there aren't many in the uk who can come to begin with?
The current (to be finalised) policy is this: 16+ are allowed during the day, after a certain point they should return home, ans the full event (particularly at night) will be limited to 18+.
19th June: A hostel has been chosen for some of us to book and is 18+ only. It had been decided that under 18s would not be staying overnight and that remains the case. Alcohol will likely be involved during the day and as a number of attendees will be under the influence, it may not be wise to allow under 18s.

Beverage
BYOB (bring your own bottle). Bring drinks, or buy while you are there. Expect a communal approach to them. It's a party, that's how it goes (even for geeks).
Food
This will be sorted out while we're there. Essentially, we'll eat out, or buy something to cook up at the hostel. We'll have a relaxed attitude. If you have BIG dietary requirements let us know. If you have simple dietary requirements, just try not to order something that causes you to die. I'm sure you'll manage, you managed up to now ;)
We may also have a bbq if we can find a location to hold it.
Activities
Primarily, this is a meet, a geek out, a party etc. But lets think of cool stuff to do while we're there! We don't need a lot of structure, just ideas to get things moving right away :)
Things already semi-organised:

- Wall of Sheep
- Meet VPN with asterisk server (report in wifi found away from the group?)
- Hopefully encrypted channel out the internet, to keep things secure from the hostel itself
- BBQ
- Hunting for wifi/bluetooth/infrared/rfid/random street tech
- Core War
- BBS
- Live cam feed for those who couldn't attend
- Hacking/computer movies and documentaries
BBQ
It looks like the BBQ can go ahead, we are choosing a location, either in the hostel (where it would be 18+) or maybe in a bbq friendly park nearby (if there is one) which MIGHT be 16+ (unless people object)

- making fun lil hack challenges on a laptop or AP

Really, knock yourself out. You have an idea, you go for it. Everyone can please themselves if they wanna get involved. This thing is fairly unstructured and fluid. Let the Technolust run wild!
Stuff To Bring
You need a photo ID to get in to the hostel! A valid passport or Photo Drivers Licence are accepted.
Its a geek meet so bring all your fun gadgets! You are responsible for them, take precautions London is a big city.
We suggest you wipe all personal data from your laptops, we're not gonna tollerate screwing with peoples stuff unless permission is given, but this is a hackerish meet up, be sensable!
Try to bring extension cords and enough sockets for all your kit, that way in theory everyone has enough power points.
Suggestions to bring:
- Laptop
- Wifi stuff
- Lots of network cables, crossover AND standard ethernet!
- Routers, wifi routers, etc.
- Bluetooth dongle
- Radio scanner
- Infrared dongle
- Cameras
Bring as much networking equipment as you can, its all fun!
Requests:
- Projector for watching movies etc! PLEASE let us know if you can bring one
- Spare cables of all kinds
- A few USB hubs would be useful
- USB Nics, damn useful things
- We can probably find uses for small form factor servers
- Cool projects, gadgets, wargames, software, ...
